Compelling Reasons Why You Should Drop Everything & Visit Turkey.

If you are aware of current world events right now, the chances are that Turkey isn’t likely to be on your current ‘must-see’ list. Because of its closeness to the Middle East – in geographical and political terms – a lot of people are thinking twice about visiting.

But while there is an element of risk, the reality is that it is in the same security state as virtually everywhere else in Europe and the western world. And missing out on such a beautiful and welcoming country would be such a shame. With this in mind, here are a few awesome reasons why you should rip up your current travel plans and book a visit to Turkey instead.

The beaches

The weather and beaches in Turkey are magnificent, and each area has its own distinct appeal. Bodrum and Izmir are well worth a look, and given that the country is located by both the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, you are almost guaranteed warm, crystal blue water for the vast majority of the year. Whether you are looking for incredible sandy beaches for sun lounging, or rocky coves and craggy shorelines for hiking and adventure, Turkey has everything you need when it comes to beaches – and more.

The baths

You haven’t had a bath until you have experienced a Turkish one. Get yourself down to a hamam – there’s one in almost every town and city – and you will experience a bath like no other. Getting scrubbed, washed and massaged at one of these hamams will result in you walking out cleaner and more relaxed than ever before.

The culture

Turkey is the product of a long and eventful history, and much of it is still there to look at and experience for yourself. Book yourself on one of the Ephesus private tours to explore the incredible ruins of an ancient city. Take in the amazing sights and sounds of the mosques and palaces of Istanbul, which have stood for many centuries. And don’t forget to check out the incredible underground city of Cappadocia, which has to be seen to be believed. There is an amazing array of museums to visit, too: the Ottoman palace museum in Istanbul is a big highlight for tourists all over the world.

Incredible food

Wherever you are in Turkey, there will be local food traditions that you can’t experience anywhere else on the planet. Don’t assume it’s all about doner kebabs, either – at least, not the ones you buy on the way home from the bar. Seafood is huge over in Turkey, and there are amazing dishes and desserts to try out.

Friendly people

The Turks are a friendly bunch, and hospitality comes as second nature to them. You will be made to feel more than welcome and don’t be surprised if you are asked to hang out and spend time with the locals. Many tourists to Turkey come home with tales of being invited to Turkish homes and being served incredible meals and Turkish tea. There is no better way to find out about a culture and country than experiencing its people’s home lives.
