Pack Hacks: 7 Tricks For Packing When Travelling

Do you always run out of room in your suitcase? Is your bag always too heavy? Here are a few useful hacks that could help to eliminate your packing problems forever.

Roll your clothes, don’t fold

When it comes to maximising space, you’re much better off rolling clothes than folding them – you’ll squeeze a lot more into your suitcase. Rolling doesn’t cause creases, plus it can provide better cushioning against potentially fragile items.

Keep your clothes lightweight

When it comes to keeping your luggage weight down, opt for clothing that’s light. Bulky jackets can often add a lot of weight – you’re much better off opting for a lightweight thermal anorak if you need something to keep warm and dry. Berghaus has some great options that are ideal for a backpacking adventure or a camping trip. Meanwhile, you can also buy lightweight towels and lightweight thermal trousers.

If you’re camping, bring a swag

Tents can be bulky and frustrating to put up – if you’re going on an outdoor adventure and planning some camping, consider a swag. These tents are simple to pitch up, very portable and often very comfortable (some come with a mattressed floor). You can buy swags from sites like 4WD Supacentre. Most of these tents are for solo use, although there are some two-man swags on the market.

Invest in an e-reader

If you’re an avid reader and you don’t own an e-reader, you may want to consider investing in one for your travels. Paper books may have a nice traditional feel to them, but they’re bulky and will add to your luggage’s weight. By taking an e-reader, you can read as many books as you like without weighing down your suitcase.

Load up on ziplock bags

Ziplock bags can come in handy in all kinds of ways. You can put toiletries in them such as toothpaste and shampoo to stop them leaking on your clothes. You can also use them to store wet clothes, which can very useful if you’re backpacking. You can even use them for putting loose items like jewellery. All in all, they’re a great bit of kit to have on you.

Use empty sun lotion bottles to store valuables

When it comes to keeping valuables safe like money and jewellery, you could consider hiding them in an empty sun lotion bottle. This way, if somebody does get into your bag, your valuables won’t get stolen because no-one will think to steal a bottle of sun cream.

Weigh your luggage before you head off to the airport

To avoid overweight baggage charges when at the airport, make sure to weigh your suitcase before you leave so that you can take out any items before you go. You can buy portable suitcase scales which could be useful to bring with you for weighing your suitcase before you head back home. These scales can be found at sites like Mini In The Box.
